35 Years Servicing Madison County

This year the Humane Society of Madison County is honored to celebrate 35 years of helping animals in need throughout Madison County. In 1989, a group of caring citizens saw the need to help the homeless animals of Madison County and to educate residents on animal health and the importance of preventing unplanned litters of puppies and kittens through spay and neuter programs.

Through the years the HSMC grew from housing animals in foster homes and vet offices, to signing a contract with the County Commissioners in 1998 to take over the daily operations of the local dog pound. This was an important step in the dedication, commitment and growth of the HSMC to serve the homeless animals in the county. In 2012, the HSMC was blessed to expand the shelter and moved to its current location in West Jefferson. Without the 35 years of continuous support from our local supporters, we would not have been able to continue our mission to serve the animal community of Madison County since 1989.

Please join us for a family-fun celebration on Saturday, July 20th from 12 pm to 4 pm, at our shelter for an afternoon filled with animals, games, outdoor fun & more! Food and refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.

Stop inside the shelter to shop our small gift shop and buy your Ann & Tony's tickets (cash only)!
